What truly irritates designers

It's absolutely annoying when you've completed a nice piece of work and then someone comes up and say "aiya I also can. In fact, no need so difficult. I use Word or PP can already" and then earnestly tries to imitate your work with MS Word or PP.

Why don't we render all designers obsolete then? People don't seem to know or appreciate the fact that each element of a piece of work is being carefully treated and placed. People somehow just think it’s easy, no sweat. For every piece of professional work, font was carefully chosen, pictures carefully treated and adjusted, page elements aligned precisely. All these take tons of time and effort and mostly go unnoticed.

It’s particularly frustrating when someone just says, “eh I can design also, use Word can already, no big deal”. Oh yeah? No big deal? Bet you didn’t even know research has to be done on target audience before design gets started. Oh wait, do you even know the existence of Photoshop or is Word your trusty programme for all your gimmicks.

And I’ve heard this even in my previous job in Oculus. Clients just come and say “my clerk also can do”. It’s so incredibly irritating. If your clerk can do all these, she wouldn’t be a clerk? Why are designers being picked on for such belittling childish attitude? Somehow I attribute this to the subjective nature of design itself. There’s no absolute in design, no right or wrong, and it just gives people the justification to fault anything.

Whatever it is, it’s just plain disrespectful toward the designer when his or her work is being taken lightly. If you think you can do a better job then don’t approach the designer to start with.
