Slavery Footprint

Just last Friday, I came across this website.

Picture 1

This is an awesome website that made me feel really horrible. But this is the reality of the world behind commodities and the products that we endlessly consume and take for granted. Majority of our food, clothes, gadgets, furniture, jewelry, hygiene and beauty products and cosmetics are tainted with modern-day slavery.

To add to consumerism is the reality of wastage. First-world countries dispose of millions of tonnes of garbage most of it containing products that we buy and throw thoughtlessly. The disease in a developed country is the disease of consumerism where we buy for the sake of owning something and not because we really need the product. At the end of it, the profiters aren't the ones who harvested your raw materials but the MNCs who own the labels on these products. They get paid for our consumer habits and the slaves have to work harder to meet the demand.

Just because we don't see it doesn't mean it isn't happening. This world is unfair and its our job to make it right. We have the power to choose as consumers.
